Healthy House Sprung Mattress (Medium Firm)

These mattresses are made for The Healthy House without the addition of toxic fire retardants. They have a 100% cotton cover which is Oeko-tex Standard 100, free from harmful chemicals. We can now offer a choice of filling to suit individual needs. Because cotton is not naturally fire retardant, our cotton filling is fire retarded with borax, a natural mineral mined in the USA.

As an alternative, the 50% polyester and 50% cotton wadding, known as ‘rebound’ because of its ability to return to its original shape, is naturally fire retardant. Both mattresses come in medium firm - firm enough to give good support with the benefit of the softness of the filling to give extra comfort. The vents on each side allow the mattress to breathe. 5 year guarantee.

A standard king size mattress contains 325, 13.5 gauge, open coil springs. A heavy round wire edge surrounds both sides of the mattress. The upholstery consists of 142g of coir fibre per m2 of cotton felt (or polyester and cotton rebound). The border, handles and tufts are all 100% cotton.  The delivery charge on each mattress is £30.00.

FAQs

Should I purchase a very firm bed to ease my back pain?
You need a new bed, which offers the right support for you as an individual.

I have a bought a slatted bed base and would like a mattress to go on it, Are your  mattresses suitable?
Yes. All our mattresses are suitable for slatted bases. We would recommend however that there is no more than a 3" gap between the slats.

How do I know what size bed is best for me?
The largest bed you can afford is best. Larger beds are more comfortable especially if you are sharing as you are less likely to disturb each.

Can you make me a non- standard size?

Yes, the mattresses are bespoke and therefore can be made in various sizes. We would need to know your requirements before giving you a price on a special size mattress.

Do your mattresses comply with British Standards fire regulations?
Yes. By law, all mattresses sold in the U.K. must comply with British Standards fire regulations. The cotton cover on our  sprung mattress has the Oeko-tex  Standard 100 accreditation which confirms that it is free from harmful substances. The polyester and cotton filling is naturally fire retardant and the cotton filling is fire retarded using borax which is a natural mineral mined in the United States.

Do I need to turn my mattress?
We recommend that all mattresses be turned regularly to ensure even wear and tear.

Why should I choose a mattress sold by the Healthy House?
The mattresses made for us in Manchester are made specifically for The Healthy House  using the Oeko-tex cotton cover and various fillings stated above. The company has been established since 1927. During this time an unparalleled knowledge has been built up regarding the most suitable materials and manufacturing techniques, to employ for a particular product. All materials used are of the highest quality and each product is individually handcrafted using time-honoured skills that British Craftsmanship represents. It is based largely on the quality and benefits experienced by the end users of these mattresses that a proud reputation has been earned.

What is the difference between the Organic Mattresses and The Healthy House Sprung and Pocket Sprung Mattresses?
The organic mattresses are made in Wales using certified organic materials that have never been exposed to chemical treatments. We realize that not all our customers are in a position to purchase an organic mattress which is why we offer these other ranges as a less expensive alternative. The borax treated cotton sprung mattress feels less padded than the recbound filled mattress because cotton wadding has a natural tendency to compact.
