Professor Jean Emberlin has reported that as a result of climate change the growing season is getting longer and the growing conditions are producing plants that are stronger and as a result produce more pollen. Other factors also affect our suseptibility to hay fever such a change in our diet, increased pollution, increased use of antibiotics and our tendency to be “too clean”. "Professor Jean Emberlin, from the national pollen and aerobiology research unit at the University of Worcester, said the number of people with the condition would shoot up from the current level of around 24% of the population to about half. Climate change is playing a role by altering the length of pollen seasons for trees and plants, she said." To read the full article please click here. |
